Veena maestro gives Gangtok a rare treat

GANGTOK, Aug 2 � Celebrated mohan veena artiste, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt accompanied by tabla maestro Pandit Ram Kumar Mishra delighted an audience here with an outstanding performance.

Sharing his feelings about his short experience in Sikkim, the music maestro said last evening that the State�s beauty inspired music and if he could spend a week here, he would compose music with local musicians.

The maestro, who collaborated with Ry Cooder to put out �A meeting by the river� to win the Grammy in 1994, said to thunderous applause, �the weather here is cold, but the people are warm.�

The performance, hosted at TNA auditorium here in the capital was part of SPICMACAY Concert 2010 which was presented by Sikkim University as part of its 3rd Foundation Day celebrations. SPICMACAY stands for �Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth. � PTI
