UK team holds career counselling session

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - A delegation comprising five UK higher education counsellors led by Azahar Ali, manager, Higher Education and Society, East India, British Council Division, British Deputy High Commission, conducted a career counselling session at the Miles Bronson Residential School (MBRS) on Wednesday, according to a press release issued here today.

The students of classes XI and XII (Commerce, Humanities and Science) participated in session, the main objective of which was to extend counselling for exploring undergraduate admission opportunities in four reputed universities of UK namely University of Nottingham, University of Derby, Newcastle University and University of Greenwich.

During the session, the students were told about the benefits of pursuing their undergraduate programmes at the prestigious universities of UK.

In his inaugural speech, Dr NK Dutta, founder and Principal of MBRS explained the advantages of education in the UK for its tradition of excellence in education from the days of leaders like Gandhi and Nehru to the present times. He said the UK is among the best destinations for higher education for its highly reputed and globally benchmarked top ranked universities, the distinguished faculty, the multicultural environment and world-class research facilities available in the institutions.

Dr Dutta urged the students to enquire about scholarship opportunities in these universities and welcomed the fact that the UK government is going to reintroduce the provision of work permits for foreign students.

The counsellors� delegation comprised Isha Choudhary, University of Nottingham; Anjali Bhatia, University of Derby; Elizabeth Sherman, Newcastle University; Amita Chakraborty, University of Greenwich, besides Azahar Ali.

The session was hosted by Anne Lipir, head girl, MBRS and volunteered by Hiramoni Kherkatary, chairperson and Deflina Rabha, cultural secretary.
