PATACHARKUCHI, June 6 - Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district, Munindra Sarma, visited the Tapoban campus at Pathsala today to felicitate the blind students there with packets of books, pens and chocolates for their brilliant results and thanked the shelter home for its efforts.
Two students from �Tapoban�, a shelter home for physically challenged and helpless, achieved good results in the HSLC examination. Both the children are 100 per cent blind.
Kumud Kalita with his wife Luki Patgiri, has been extending services to the shelter home for a long time. Now the shelter home houses 25 inmates, and is extending support to 120 outside students.
The shelter home began its journey in 2005 and the effort of the couple has been well praised by the local people. The shelter home is not only providing education to the inmates, but also training them in cultural activities, like songs and music.
Sumi Das, daughter of Dasarath Das and Nijara Das, secured first division in the HSLC examination with 386 marks. She is also a visharad in classical music. She has already performed in various stages and in channels.
Mridula Das, son of Kanteswar Das and Phuleswari Das, also secured first division with 376 marks and letter marks in Assamese. He is also a visharad in Tabla.
Soon after the declaration of the results people of the locality visited the centre and congratulated the students.
