Two leopards captured

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 Forest authorities late last night captured two leopards at Pandu and Jalukbari areas. The animals have been sent to the Assam State Zoo.

Both the animals are adult females.

For the past several days, people in the two localities had been complaining of increased leopard presence near residential areas in the night. This triggered a panic among the residents who feared to venture out of their homes in the night.

Environmentalists have attributed the phenomenon of straying leopards to loss of habitat and dwindling prey base in the city hills which shelter a sizeable leopard population.
