Shillong, June 13 (IANS): Indian border guards detained two people near the Bangladesh border in Meghalaya and recovered brown sugar worth nearly Rs 50 lakh from them, a Border Security Force (BSF) official said on Sunday.

"The smugglers were detained on Saturday after a tip-off," BSF spokesman Ravi Gandhi told IANS. He said the duo - Leondra Sangma and Tainat Sangma - were detained at Baghmara in South Garo Hills district.

Baghmara is in the western part of the State about 450 Km from capital Shillong. Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly and unfenced and prone to frequent infiltration.
