AGARTALA, Jan 1 - Sixteen candidates have been shortlisted for the post of Vice Chancellor of the Tripura Central University.
The appointment is likely to be made by January 25.
About 80 to 90 acclaimed academicians had applied for the post and out of them, 16 have been shortlisted by the search committee after preliminary scrutiny.
If everything goes according to the plan, the appointment of the new VC for the Tripura Central University should be made by January 25 as the probable candidates have already been shortlisted, said Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath here today. The candidates shortlisted include Satyadeo Poddar, Chandrika Basu Majumder, Sukanta Banik, Anjan Mukherjee and MK Singh.
Nath said the appointment of the new VC has been delayed due to the death of a varsity nominee of the search committee. Now the process will be expedited because the VCs post cannot be left vacant in a full-fledged university for too long.
The VCs post has remained vacant since Dr VL Dhururkar demitted office in September last year following corruption charges against him.
However, in his resignation letter, Dr Dhururkar cited insecurity as a reason for quitting. Significantly, no probe or case has been initiated against the former VC, leaving many questions unanswered.
During the past four months, the appointment process of assistant professors has been stalled due to the absence of the VC, creating problems for students as well research scholars. The varsity is also running without a Chancellor for a considerable period of time. The Ministry of Human Resource Development is yet to take any step for filling up the post of Chancellor.
