Tripura Cabinet moves Guv to appoint council Administrator

AGARTALA, May 12 - Ending all speculation on the fate of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the State Cabinet today decided to approach Governor Ramesh Bais to appoint an Administrator to run the autonomous council after May 17.

The tenure of the current council is scheduled to end on May 17. The State Election Commission had conducted a revision of the electoral rolls in February and also published the final rolls.

Shortly before the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the State poll panel postponed the council election process following an advisory from the State Government.

Since election is not possible in the TTAADC by May 17 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Council of Ministers today decided to request the Governor to appoint an Administrator for the tribal council. This will be communicated to the Raj Bhavan shortly, said State Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath here today.

The CPI(M), which has an absolute majority in the TTAADC, has been ruling the tribal council since 2005.
