DIBRUGARH, Nov 19 - In view of the increasing risk of health hazards through pesticide residue accumulated in foodstuff, Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised a series of trainings for Anganwadi workers at different locations under four Child Development Project Office (CDPO) circles of Dibrugarh, a release stated.
The basic objective of the training was to bring awareness among women on ill-consequences of pesticide-residues on commercial crops. The Anganwadi workers were trained up for horizontal spread of knowledge in their respective place of work. The trainees were taught techniques to minimize such residues in pulses, vegetables, fruits, tea etc., to bring to an acceptable safe level. They were also made aware of nutrients from alternative sources with least or no pesticidal exposure.
The trainees were also asked to motivate women for raising kitchen garden organically for every household so that each family can get safe vegetables and fruits round the year. Arup Kumar Sarma, the course director of the programme, said that at least 105 Anganwadi workers under four CDPO circles of Tengakhat, Panitola, Barbaruah and Khowang were trained up, the recent one being at Tiloibari Anganwadi centre, which was conducted yesterday. Sangita Bora Saikia of KVK, Dibrugarh also acted as resource person, the release stated.
