JORHAT, Sept 4 - The Tocklai Chah Gavesana Pratisthan Suraksa Samiti, which is a newly-formed body here having eminent citizens comprising businessmen, scientists and educationists, has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s intervention to overcome the financial crisis the Tocklai Tea Research Institute - the world�s oldest tea research institute located here - was currently facing.
In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, the newly-formed body has sought fulfilment of a set of demands to enable the institute to tide over the crisis. The demands included nationalisation of the institute, declaring Tocklai as an institute of national importance and attaching Tocklai with any Government scientific apex body like ICAR or DST so that �much-needed financial stability may be restored�.
