HAFLONG, Feb 13 - Debojit Thaosen was today elected as the Chief Executive Member of the 11th NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) unopposed, as no candidate from the BJP or others contested the election.
Talking to media-persons, Thaosen expressed his gratitude to his team as well as to the people of Dima Hasao for reposing faith in him. He said his foremost work would be to solve the salary problem of the Council employees, who are not getting their salaries for the last nine months. Today�s session was chaired by NCHAC Chairman Ngamrothang Hmar.
Staff Reporter adds: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta today congratulated the Dima Hasao District Congress Committee and the people of Dima Hasao for restoring the Congress-led Executive Council of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC).
An APCC statement said here that because of the diabolic designs of BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP dissolved the Congress-led NCHAC Executive Council and grabbed the council in a wicked manner, encouraging defection in the Congress camp.
But the despotic and shady manner in which the then BJP-led NCHAC Executive Council CEM Niranjan Hojai functioned, made 10 Council members return to the Congress fold.
The special session of the NCHAC, scheduled for January 31, 2016, had to be postponed following violent incidents at Haflong. Hojai tendered his resignation prior to the no-trust motion moved by the councillors at the special session of the council scheduled for February 12.
