Tension prevails along Assam-Mizoram border

NILAMBAZAR, Oct 17 - A tense situation is prevailing on the Assam-Mizoram border over alleged land grabbing by Mizos. According to information, the Mumit district administration of Mizoram has set up a temporary IR battalion camp on Assam land across the border. The Mizo people have built many houses overnight by challenging the recent eviction drive of Karimganj district administration and police department led by the DC, Karimganj, Ambamuthan MP.

Ambamuthan MP informed ANN Service on Friday that the two States have committed to settle the border dispute at a district-level meeting held in view of the recent conflict, triggered by the torching of a farmhouse in an area claimed by both. �The State government has been informed about the whole matter and the next step will be taken by the district administration after receiving the instructions of the government,� he said. It may be mentioned that the joint meeting of the two districts held at Kanmun village was attended by Mamit DC Lalrozama, Karimganj DC Ambamuthan MP, police officials, forest officers and other officials of the two states.
