ITANAGAR, Sept 28 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) today said that the teachings of all ancient Indian saints and philosophers, including Gandhi�s, would be forever relevant.
Inaugurating a two-day national conference on the theme, �Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi today�, at the Yupia campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor said that all Indian philosophies promote integral humanism and universal fraternity.
�Ved Vyas�s Vedas, the Mahabharata, Valmiki�s Ramayana, Buddha�s teachings and in the same line, Mahatma Gandhi�s philosophy, are all universal and timeless. It is the quintessence of Indian culture,� he said.
The Governor said that two cardinal principles of Gandhi were �satya� and �ahimsa�. He stated that Gandhian ahimsa is for human well-being, and it is not meek submission to evil-doers.
The Governor said that Gandhi�s other philosophies were to make children skilled and independent, and strengthen villages and village panchayats. Gandhi�s religious ideals encompass good sense, forgiveness, non-conceit, non-stealing, cleanliness, control over senses, fortitude, knowledge, truth and lack of anger. These ten components of dharma have always been relevant and will continue to remain so, he added.
Earlier, the Director of NIT-Arunachal Pradesh, Prof P Mahanta, gave a briefing on the initiative of the Gandhi Study Centre at his institution to promote Gandhian philosophy. The centre was inaugurated by the Governor in October, 2018.
The Governor�s wife, Neelam Misra, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University Prof Saket Kushwaha, Director of NERIST Prof HS Yadav, former Vice Chairman, UGC, and former Vice Chancellor of Central University of Haryana, Prof Mool Chand Sharma, Prof Naresh Dadhich, faculty members and students of the NIT were present on the occasion.
