TEZPUR, Nov 1 (PTI) - An assistant manager of a tea garden has been kidnapped by National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) militants in Sonitpur district, police said here today.

Dhrubajyoti Talukdar, Assistant Manager of Dhekiajuli Tea Estate, was kidnapped while he was returning to his residence after making weekly payment to the garden labourers on Saturday night.

The four-member gang of militants took him away at gunpoint and proceeded to Dhekiajuli town on his two-wheeler, Sonitpur Superintendent of Police Jitmal Doley said.

Talukdar's mobile was traced to a ditch near the tea garden and his motorcycle was found at an isolated place in Dhekiajuli town yesterday.

The police suspect that the assistant manager was taken away towards a deep forest near Assam-Arunachal border.

The police have launched a massive combing operation to trace the abducted garden official and to nab the militants, Doley added.
