Stray dog creates panic in city areas, bites many people

GUWAHATI, May 6 - A stray dog has created panic among pedestrians in Chandmari, Lakhtokia, Panbazar areas of the city. On Monday, the dog, purportedly a mad one, attacked and injured a number of people and most them had to be hospitalised in emergency wards of various hospitals.

Officials of the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital informed that altogether 30 such patients were admitted in its emergency ward during the day. Strangely, however, officials of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) said they have not received any information about the incident till late evening.

According to existing rules, it is the duty of a municipal body to capture animals that create problems for common people in an urban area. Even the office-bearers of JBF, an NGO working on stray dog menace in the city, stated that they have not received any information about the dog till late evening.
