JORABAT, Nov 28 - A mishap was averted when a pick-up vehicle transporting paddy straw from Khetri towards Jorabat caught fire on the National Highway-37 near Jorabat on Saturday afternoon. As per eyewitnesses, the driver and the helper tried their best to pull down the heap of straw from the vehicle, but the flames engulfed the entire quantity of straw and the vehicle in no time.
Some passers-by informed the police, following which police personnel and fire tender reached the spot and extinguished the fire.
A police official said the entire quantity of straw was burnt and the vehicle was completely damaged. Traffic movement was affected for about an hour due to the incident.
