State registers increase in girl population

GOLAGHAT, May 8 � At a time when female foeticide was a major cause of concern in several states all over the country, Assam on the contrary has registered a record of sorts by recording a substantial increase in the number of girl child born.

The census of 2011 shows that during the period of last ten years, the girl child had registered considerable increase. Census sources said that between 2001-2011 all total 1072 girl child were born against 1000 boys.

During the period of ten years, all total 45,13,740 babies were born. This statistics is really encouraging in the state of Assam. Among them, the number of boys are 21,77,890 and 23,35,854 are girls.
