GUWAHATI, Nov 23 - In its bid to woo faculty members to join Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute (AHMC-RI) at Diphu, the State Government has announced a slew of financial and career incentives, which includes the provision of extending the retirement age from 65 years to 70 years.
Further, the Government has also decided to provide an additional emolument of 25 per cent of the basic pay. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told media persons on Wednesday that the incentives have been announced to encourage and inspire the faculty members in Diphu, which is perceived as a �difficult terrain�. Sarma, however, mentioned that of the 58 appointments made, 57 have already joined service at Diphu.
�In case of any faculty members posted in the AHMC-RI, the age of retirement of the faculty member shall extend beyond 65 years for the period he or she continues to serve at the AHMC-RI up to a maximum age of 70 years,� the Minister said.
Further, any faculty member who has served in AHMC-RI would have the benefit of increase in retirement age by two years for every five years of service at the institute. This shall be applicable for service rendered at the AHMC-RI in any post up to the rank of Associate Professor.
As per the new incentive package, any faculty who has served the AHMC-RI in the rank of Professor shall have the benefit of increase in retirement age by one year for two years of service at the institute.
The benefits of the extended service, according to the announcement, can be availed by the incumbent in subsequent posting in any medical college across the State under the Health and Family Welfare department. The incentive package for the faculty members is proposed for 10 years.
