State flood scene reviewed

GUWAHATI, June 10 � Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Dr Bhumidhar Barman and Minister of Water Resource Basanta Das, along with other senior officials of the State, held a high-level review meeting on the flood situation today at the State Secretariat Complex here today.

The meeting deliberated on a host of issues ranging from mitigation measures and provision of relief and rescue materials, besides taking stock of the extent of damage. In this regard, necessary instructions were issued to the Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts to provide relief and rescue, besides rehabilitation, to those affected.

According to the data provided by the Water Resources Department, embankments have been breached in Sonitpur, Nalbari, Dhubri, Darrang and Goalpara districts and the total rainfall received up to June 10 is 931 mm (recorded at Chandmari, Guwahati).

Dr Bhumidhar Barman also stated that sufficient food stock and medicines have been kept ready to tackle the flood scenario. For further information, the State Emergency Operation Centre (toll free) Number 1070 and the District Emergency Operation Centre (toll free) Number 1077 have been made available for the public, said an official release.
