Social worker, poetess awarded

GUWAHATI, Feb 25 - The Krishna Chandra Gogoi and Kushumbala Gogoi memorial awards were presented to retired forest officer and social worker Nagen Das and poetess Dr Marami Borthakur respectively at a solemn function held at Swahid Bhawan here on February 23, said a press release today.

Krishna Chandra Gogoi was an efficient forest officer and his wife Kushumbala Gogoi was a social worker. The function was convened by their daughter Hiranyamoyee Baruah, Chief Editor, �Saptarshi Gosthi�. Literary pensioner Kishori Mohan Pathak chaired the event.

The programme began with lighting of the inaugural lamp by singer Buli Bhuyan. This was followed by a beautiful chorus by members of Surendra Music College. Social worker Binanda Gogoi was the chief guest.

The programme was also attended by poets, singers and social workers from Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Biswanath Chariali and other places.

A poetry competition was also held on the occasion.
