Smuggled arms seized, 3 held

AIZAWL, Sept 29 - BSF personnel seized a huge cache of smuggled arms and ammunition at Phuldungsei village in Mamit district of west Mizoram, near the Bangladesh border, on Monday, a BSF source said.

Three residents of Aizawl, identified as Lalhuapzaupa (56), Liansanga (46) and Vanlalruata (25), were arrested and have been booked at the Marpara Police Station in this connection. Two vehicles which were used to carry the smuggled arms, were also seized.

The seized consignment includes 28 AK-47 rifles, one AK-56 rifle, a carbine, 7,894 rounds of ammunition and 28 magazines, the source added.

Briefing reporters at Mamit today, BSF IG Sunil Kumar said that the smuggled arms had their origin in Myanmar. The destination of the smuggled arms will be ascertained after interrogation of the three reportedly involved in the smuggling.
