Slain NDFB (S) ultra identified

GUWAHATI, May 12 - The NDFB(S) militant, who was killed on Wednesday by the Army in a joint operation with the Assam Police, has been identified as Birbal Islary alias Banjai of Chirang.

He�was a senior cadre of the Gossaigaon platoon and a close associate of Bidai, a defence release stated.

The hard-core militant was killed in a raid by Army troops on a NDFB(S) camp in the dense Ripu reserve forest in Kokrajhar district.

�It has been learnt that the terrorist group was planning to use this camp as a base to launch violent attacks on security forces and innocent civilians. The camp was spread out in an area of 100 by 100 metres and was well stocked to cater for a sustained period. A large quantity of rations, tentage, blankets, solar panels and other war-like stores were recovered from the camp,� Army sources said.

The slain cadre was mainly responsible for providing tip-offs and warning to the Bidai group with regard to movement of security forces, provision of logistics and coordination with linkmen and overground workers.
