GANGTOK, Nov 11 - The Sikkim State Commission for Women has taken strong notice of a video of a naked woman recorded supposedly near the District Administrative Centre here, which is being circulated on the social media.

In this regard, please be informed that circulation of such video which outrages the modesty of women is a grave offence and necessary action as per the relevant penal provisions shall be initiated, stated a press release from the Commission.

The Commission has also taken steps to identify the woman in the video and extend all possible help to her, including necessary counselling. It has advised all individuals to refrain from sharing the video.

Last year too, in a case of alleged rape, the victims picture had gone viral on the social media, creating outrage among citizens.

In order to curb such malpractices, the State police and the womens commission have been issuing advisories to safeguard the rights of distressed women.
