GANGTOK, July 17 Amidst regular news of private developers abandoning projects or selling them off to third parties, or projects being delayed at some pretext or the other, Sikkims 96 MW Jorethang Loop Hydro Electric Project (JLHEP) is a silver lining.
In line with the vision of the Sikkim Chief Minister to make the State debt free by 2015 with the revenue from the hydro power projects coming up in the State, the JLHEP is another feather in his cap, considering that the project has witnessed 80 per cent completion so far.
The revenue from the 12 per cent free power per annum to be earned by the State plus the one per cent local area development fund to be given by the developer, and the revenue to be earned from the environmental cess, Sikkim seems well on course in achieving the revenue target by 2015.
The Jorethang power project being developed by Dans Energy Private Limited is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and is moving ahead for commissioning by early 2014.
