Sikkim govt withdraws bill

GANGTOK, Aug 26 � The Sikkim Government today formally withdrew a controversial bill seeking a ban on public demonstrations including sit-ins and processions.

The introduction of Sikkim Prevention and Control of Disturbance of Public Order Bill by Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling on August 11 had led to widespread protests and demonstrations all over the State.

Sikkim Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh had also advised the government to withdraw the bill which was described by opposition political parties and social organisations as a �black bill.� � PTI
