Sikkim bags award for TB control prog

GANGTOK, Sept 27 - Sikkim was awarded the prestigious Best Performing State Award for implementing the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan presented the award to the Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Resident Commissioner�s Office, Sikkim House, during the launch of the �Accelerator to National Strategic Plan � TB Harega Desh Jeetega� campaign of the Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi on September 25.

The OSD received the award on behalf of the Health Department of Sikkim.

The award, comprising a trophy and a certificate, was handed over to Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on his arrival at the Sikkim House in Delhi today.

Five other States and UTs � Daman & Diu, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Tripura � also received the award under different categories.
