SFI slams govt over undemocratic decision

GUWAHATI, June 19 - The Assam unit of the Students Federation of India (SFI) today condemned the decision of the Act Implementation Committee of the State Assembly to prohibit students from taking part in protests as undemocratic and an attack on their constitutional rights.

The Act Implementation Committee yesterday took a decision to bar the students studying up to higher secondary level from participating in protests during classes.

The SFI State unit alleged that this is against the democratic rights of the students. The Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to participate in peaceful protests. Hence, the decision is against the Constitution.

The government, having terribly failed in providing quality education, is taking such a move so as to check participation of students in agitations against its misdeeds or failures in improving the quality of education, etc.

The Act Implementation Committee has taken the undemocratic decision in the wake of protests against the pathetic education scenario in the State, said the SFI unit and demanded its immediate revocation.
