Scribe, former cop take oath as SICs in Manipur

IMPHAL, Oct 22 - Former police officer Dr Soibam Ibocha Singh and former journalist Oinam Sunil were sworn in as State Information Commissioners (SIC) of Manipur at Raj Bhavan here on Monday. Governor Dr Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office to the two SICs, according to DlPR reports.

Dr Ibocha Singh, former IGP, speaking to media persons after the swearing-in-ceremony, said that as the Information Commissioner of the State, he will work wholeheartedly and provide information sought by the people regarding their grievances.

Oinam Sunil stated that it is a proud moment for the journalist fraternity not only in Manipur but the entire North East that a journalist has been appointed as SIC. He added that he is hopeful that other Northeastern States will also appoint qualified journalists as SICs.

The Information Commission consists of three members including Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and two SICs. Sunil began his career in journalism in 1988-89 and was working with The Times of India at Guwahati.

The swearing-in-ceremony was attended by CM N Biren Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Cabinet Ministers, top civil and police officials and others.
