Scrap unjust policy: Debabrata

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, June 29 - Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Debabrata Saikia today said the news of Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre stopping government advertisements to The Assam Tribune since February this year as punishment for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has left him astounded.

In a statement, Saikia demanded that the Modi government should immediately abandon this unjust policy and resume issuing government advertisements to the Assam Tribune group.

This (publication) group deserves government advertisements by dint of its 81-year-old stature as the pride of Assam, he said, describing this vindictive act of the Modi government as a blatant assault on freedom of speech fostered by democratic traditions.
