GUWAHATI, Aug 16 - In a major boost to differently-abled students of the North East, Bharti Infratel has announced scholarships to 127 students of the region. This is going to provide the much needed support to these deserving students.
The Bharti Infratel Scholarship Programme is a result of Bharti Infratels partnership with Shishu Sarothi, a non-profit organisation based in Guwahati.
Shishu Sarothi, which came into being due to the lack of services and rehabilitative measures available for people with disabilities, had been for long pressing for aid for students with disabilities. Students with disabilities in the State as well as in other parts of the region had been encountering many obstacles to pursue their studies due to lack of support.
It needs mention that the primary objective of this programme is to provide financial support and aid to students with disabilities for pursuing professional or technical education, which in turn will help them get employment and make them self-reliant. The scholarship programme is designed to benefit students across all eight states of the North East viz: Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Meghalaya.
To identify deserving candidates, a six-member selection committee was formed under the guidance of Phanindra Jidung, Director, Higher Education, Government of Assam.
Announcing the scholarship, DS Rawat, MD and CEO, Bharti Infratel Limited, said, I am hopeful that this programme will benefit deserving students in a great way. I wish each one of these students the very best in realising their ambitions.
