IMPHAL, Sept 1 - The Mission for Economic Empowerment of Traditional Artisans and Craftsmen (MEETAC) was formally launched here on Saturday.
MEETAC is an autonomous society set up on December 29 last year by Government of Manipur under the Department of Textiles, Commerce and Industries.
Addressing the function, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla appealed to inculcate the sense of dignity of labour in the region besides introducing crafts training in the schools.
In his address, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that MEETAC is a brainchild of Governor Dr Heptulla, adding that many other projects in the State have been launched successfully because of her endeavour.
On the scarcity of urea fertilizer, he clarified that it�s because of the damage to the National Highway near Kohima. However, two racks of fertilizer (each rack contains around 29,500 tonnes) have been transported by train upto Jiribam from Namrup and the consignment would reach Imphal within a few days.
He also asserted that Manipur can become a model State in the country within 10 years provided there is less unwanted activities including bandhs and blockades. Industries Minister Th Biswajit who is the chairman of MEETAC also spoke on the occasion.
