Santhal students demand death penalty to militants

BONGAIGAON, Sept 7 - The All Santhal Students� Union (ASSU) activists of Chirang district staged a demonstration today at Sundari and demanded capital punishment to those NDFB militants who have been chargesheeted by the National Investigation Agency(NIA) for being involved in the 2014 massacre of Adivasis.

The accused cadres were identified as Sanju Bordoloi alias Sibgiri, Bishnu Narzary alias N Gerema, Ajay Basumatary alias B Kuhum and Nitul Daimary alias D Naihab. They were all cadres of the outfit headed by IK Songbijit.

As the special court was supposed to pronounce the final judgement in the case on the chrgesheet submitted by the NIA against these accused militants on July 22 to the court, the Santhal student group had staged a demonstration demanding capital punishment to the accused militants who had killed 84 innocent Adivasi people in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar district on December 23 in 2014.

The Santhal student leaders also demanded to book militant leader IK Songbijit for awarding him life imprisonment for the same mass killing.
