Sankar Jayanti celebrated in London

GUWAHATI, Oct 21 - Asam Sahitya Sabha UK celebrated the 570th Sankar Jayanti recently at Kings Langley Community Centre, London, a press release stated.

President Manjira Chowdhury welcomed the delegates as well as the guest speaker from Assam Dr Dayananda Borgohain, his wife Pari Borgohain, guest artistes Jina Rajkumari, Dibyajyoti Goswami, folk and Satriya dancers Priyama Barpujari and Upasana Rajkumari.

Manjira Chowdhury thanked everyone for their ongoing support during the last 20 years. She also emphasised on promoting Srimanta Sankardev�s philosophy and religion among the people in Assam and abroad in a simple way to globalise this larger than life human being, who was born in Assam 570 years ago.

The guest speaker, Dr Dayananda Borgohain, president, Tai-Ahom Sahitya Sabha and the chairman of the AHSEC, delivered a lucid speech on the main principles of Srimanta Sankaradeva�s �sanatana dharma�. He also explained the process by which the education system in Assam can be improved.

The cultural programme began with a Satriya dance by Upasahana Rajkumari of Assam, borgeet by Suravi Lahon, Kamrupia lokageet by Bhabani Kakati.The British Assamese sibling duo Rishi Chowdhury and Samyami Chowdhury Sarma paid a tribute to the �Gurujona� through a borgeet. The magical voice of guest artiste, Jina Rajkumari Goswami stunned the audience. The show concluded with another spectacular satriya dance with abhinaya by Priyama and Upashana from Assam.The highlights of the evening were Rishi Chowdhury�s tabla solo, accompanied by Samyami on flute and borgeet with flute by Samyami abd Satriya dances by Upashana Rajkumari and Priyama Borpujari. Geeta Borooah, secretary/treasurer, offered the vote of thanks to everyone present.
