Samujjal to continue as AASU chief adviser

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - Ending all speculation, Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya on Monday announced that he will continue as the chief adviser of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU).

Bhattacharya made the announcement during the oath-taking ceremony of the new AASU executive committee at the Prasanna Narayan Choudhury boys� common room of Gauhati University.

�After considering the requests of AASU members and advice from many leading citizens, I have decided to continue as the chief adviser of the AASU. In the coming days, we will continue our non-violent and peaceful movement for the interest of the Assamese people and student community,� Bhattacharya said.

AASU outgoing general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi administered the oath to the members of the new executive committee and handed over the charge to newly-elected general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah.

Addressing the gathering, Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, �In the coming days, the AASU will work in the interest of the student community who have faced a huge loss amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The AASU will take some measures to address the issues of every student.�

AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath also stated that the student body will work to find out solutions against the loss incurred by the students due to the lockdown.
