MORIGAON, Oct 15 - The 155th birth anniversary of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezborua was observed at his birthplace at Ahotguri in Morigaon district under the auspices of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha.

The proceedings started with hoisting of the Asam Sahitya Sabha flag at Ahotguri Ghat along the bank of the Kopili river. This was followed by a sradhanjali function in front of the statue of Bezborua. The schoolchildren of the area took out a cultural rally and organised a programme titled Kuhi. An open meeting held on the occasion was addressed by several speakers who shed light on the life and works of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezborua.

The local people at Ahotguri expressed serious concern over the Governments negligence towards the smriti kshetra of the doyen of Assamese literature when even on his birthday no Government agency cared to pay any respect to this Assamese social giant.

Further, the Bezborua Setu over the river Kopili is in a dilapidated condition where unscrupulous traders have damaged the bridge by carrying heavy loads in trucks on a daily basis.
