GUWAHATI, Oct 10 - Sahayika Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra, a non-profit organisation, celebrated its 32nd foundation day recently at the District Library, said a press release today.
Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami and Chairperson of AERC Subhas Chandra Das were among the dignitaries who attended the function.
Sahayika runs a special school to impart primary education and training for persons with intellectual disabilities, autism and hearing impairment.
An exhibition displaying the tools and teaching aids used in such special method of education was held on the occasion along with another stall of handicraft items produced in the unit where the differently abled persons are involved.
Prior to the commencement of the function, one minute�s silence was observed to mourn the demise of eminent journalist and ex-member of Rajya Sabha Kuldip Nayyar, who was a friend of Sahayika and donated funds from his MPLAD fund to make possible the building of the Vocational Training Centre at Lankeswar.
A musical yoga demonstration followed by a lively dance performed by the students touched the heart of the audience. A colourful Jeng Bihu dance performed by the mothers of some students, songs sung by a few students and a medley of song and dance with participation of all students, were the other highlights.
Assembly Speaker Goswami who was the chief guest, appreciated the sincere efforts of Sahayika and hoped that the mission would be continued by the present leadership.
