Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, March 28 - An Asam Sahitya Sabha delegation led by its president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi today urged the NF Railway General Manager not to recruit any candidate lacking knowledge of indigenous languages of the State.

The delegation said a compulsory question paper on Assamese language should be there in all NFR recruitment tests. The paper should be introduced from the next recruitment drive itself, said the delegation in its memorandum submitted to the NFR General Manager. It is the duty of the NFR to implement the 1960 Official Language Act of the State and hence it should make the knowledge of indigenous languages obligatory for those appearing in its recruitment tests.
