Rs 10,000 cr flood relief package urged

GUWAHATI, Oct 6 � The Jamiat Ulema has called upon the Central government to extend Rs 10,000 crore package for flood relief in Assam and also called for declaring the State�s flood as a national problem.

A delegation from the State unit of the Jamiat Ulema visited the flood affected areas of Goalpara and Dhubri over the last one week.

The delegation, led by AIUDF and Jamiat leader and Lok Masha MP, Badruddin Ajmal visited the relief camps and met the flood-affected people.

They also made arrangement for providing essential relief materials to the people, stated a press release.

It said that Jamiat has made plans to provide immediate relief to at least 15,000 flood affected people.

Jamiat also blamed the Centre and the State for adopting a lackadaisical attitude with regard to flood relief operations.

It said that the Centre and the State governments have till today not made a proper analysis of the damage caused by earlier floods and in such circumstance any central assistance can never be properly utilized.

It is noteworthy that the AIUDF has already demanded a package for the flood-affected people of the State.
