GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - With the inauguration of passenger ropeway over the Brahmaputra connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, the country will get its longest ropeway located over a river.

Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Guwahati Development Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya will inaugurate the project on Monday.

The ropeway will cover a distance of 1,820 metres and it will take around eight minutes for one trip to cross the river.

The ropeway project was started by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in 2009 but the work came to a halt in 2011 due to some legal issues.

Later, in 2017, the GMDA again resumed the work and completed the project by December last year.
