Rohingya arrests in Manipur

IMPHAL, Feb 28 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday informed the State Assembly that 79 illegal Rohingyas were arrested under the Foreigners Act from 2012 to 2018.

Replying to a question by Opposition Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh in the Assembly session, the Chief Minister said that 52 illegal Rohingyas have been sent back after the completion of the legal process, while the remaining 27 are still undergoing the legal procedure.

Reacting to a supplementary question, Biren Singh said that two local persons, who were involved in providing duplicate Aadhaar cards to the arrested illegal Rohingyas, are absconding. They were involved in two separate cases at Moreh and Jiribam.

The Chief Minister also said that the State Government has written to the Centre to introduce the NRC in the State for identification of local residents and check influx.
