GUWAHATI, March 4 - Railway contractors across the country, including the NF Railway Zone, will stage a symbolic strike on March 6 to protest against non-payment by the Indian Railways.

At a press conference held here today, the national vice-president of IR Infrastructure Providers Association Mahesh Kumar said the Indian Railways has not paid the bills of thousands of construction companies for a long time. Construction companies are now unable to pay salaries to their employees because of this. If the payments are not made before Holi, the companies will intensify their protest, he said.

Over 20 lakh workers across the country are doing day-to-day construction work on various railway projects, Kumar said, adding the construction companies have no money to pay them daily or monthly wages.

We also urge our members to carry out a silent protest by wearing black badges or strips during work, executive member of the Association Amit Buragohain said. Treasurer of the Association Vikram Didwania and executive member PK Baishya were also present at the press conference.
