KAZIRANGA, Aug 31 - A male rhino calf, two-and-a-half years old which was under the care of Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) at Borjuri in Kaziranga under the Wildlife Trust of India died recently due to suspected snake bite, said Dr Pranjit Basumatary, veterinarian of the Centre.
He said that the rhino calf which was rescued from Japoripathar area in Kaziranga in 2016 during floods, was inactive and did not move properly. We saw some abnormality in his behaviour and started giving him symptomatic treatment. We could see the snake bite marks also. But it died last night, said Dr Basumatary. He said that another laboratory test would be conducted at Guwahati to find out the exact cause of death.
