RG Baruah memorial art competition held

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - The Singhapurush RG Baruah Memorial State-level Art Competition was held on the Assam Tribune premises today.

Noted artist Noni Borpuzari inaugurated the on-the-spot art competition, organised by the Assam Tribune Sports Club.

Addressing the gathering, Borpuzari said unlike the government, the private sector has been organising workshops and competitions on painting and sculpture to keep the art forms alive. He lauded the Assam Tribune group for the initiative.

Bhuban Lahkar, secretary of the RG Baruah Smritirakhya Samiti and chief guest on the occasion, dwelt on the life and contributions of RG Baruah, one of the architects of modern Assam.

Around 200 participants from different parts of the State took part in the competition.

Judges of the competition, veteran cartoonist and painter Champak Barbara, artist Ratan Kumar Rai Hajong and journalist Ankur Deka also spoke on the occasion.

The winners of the essay writing and painting competitions will be awarded on October 17 at the Kanaklal Baruah Auditorium, Assam State Museum.
