GUWAHATI, Oct 17 � The Office of the District Transport Officer, Kamrup (Metro), has collected revenue amounting to Rs 51, 30, 41,373 in the first six months (April 1 to September 30) of the financial year, 2013-14, showing a rise in collection of revenue by over Rs 3 crore compared to the preceding year (same period).
Last year (2012-13), during the same period, the department had collected Rs 48,26,85, 974.
While in the month of April, Rs 11,44,78,350 was collected by the Office of the DTO, Kamrup (Metro), the figure rose to nearly Rs 10 crore in July. Over Rs 8 crore was collected in the month of September.
District Transport Officer (Registration and Licensing) Gautam Das said that the efforts of the entire staff, including officers of the department, have paid dividends and boosted the State exchequer.
�The department, with all sincerity, has tried to enforce the law and check tax evasion and the result is showing in terms of improved collection by the office,� Das said.
He, however, maintained that the maximum amount of revenue has been collected from registration and road tax.
In the last six months, nearly 31,000 vehicles were registered by the DTO, Kamrup (Metro).
The department has set a target of Rs 112 crore for the year, 2013-14.
A statement also added that the department, from time to time, has been organising awareness programme on road safety, especially among the schoolchildren.
