Restrictions on entry of commercial vehicles into city

GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - The police administration of Guwahati city has restricted entry of all goods-carrying commercial vehicles of and above 10-wheelers into the city from the national highway at any time of the day with effect from today.

An order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amanjeet Kaur said the decision has been taken in the interest of smooth traffic management, safety and security of the vehicle users and the vulnerable road users i.e. children, students, pedestrians, senior citizens on the roads and to reduce traffic jams in and around the city.

Special permission for entry of 10 or 12-wheeler trucks can be accorded only to trucks carrying perishable goods, life-saving drugs, newspaper print material or any other commodity only of essential nature. No other vehicles shall be accorded permission in order to maintain safety of citizens, the order added.
