GUWAHATI, Jan 28 - Along with the rest of the nation, the 69th Republic Day was celebrated all over the State with patriotic zeal. Reports filed by our Staff Correspondents, Correspondents and ANN Service are as hereunder.
SILCHAR: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across Cachar district on Friday, our Staff Correspondent adds.
The central celebrations was held at the Police Parade Ground wherein Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute from the police and paramilitary forces,scouts and students who took part in the parade.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Laxmanan urged the people to maintain peace and harmony amidst the spree of developmental activities initiated across the State.
Later, an exhibition T20 cricket match was played between DSA-XI and DC-XI in which DSA-XI won the match handsomely by 10 wickets. Batting first, DC-XI scored 144 runs in 20 overs while the DSA-XI side chased the target in 17 overs.
Fruits and sweets were distributed among patients of Government hospitals and also of Cachar Cancer Hospital, inmates of Silchar Central Jail as well. Meritorious students of the district were awarded and beneficiaries were given financial assistance.
Additionally, the occasion was celebrated with great enthusiasm in different educational, besides Government and non-governmental establishments. Officials of NIT Silchar and Silchar airport also celebrated the day with gaiety.
Statues of prominent personalities were cleaned and illuminated even as patriotic songs were played throughout the day across Silchar.
JONAI: Along with the rest of the nation, the people of Jonai too celebrated the day with massive public participation, an ANN Service report stated.
Unfurling the National Tricolour at the Gandhi Maidan here, Jonai Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Nisarge Hivare urged the people to maintain peace and tranquility in society for the sake of development and overall welfare. He urged women activists and NGOs to mobilise their cadres against social evils like alcohol intake, drug abuse and human trafficking.
Highlighting various developmental efforts by the Government, the SDO urged the people to take active part in the developmental processes.
Hailakandi: �Talks are on with two militant groups, namely United Democratic Liberation Front, Barak (UDLF-B) and Bru Revolutionary Army Union (BRAU) and very soon they will join the mainstream,� informed Minister for PWD, Fisheries and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya after unfurling the National Tricolour at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, a report filed by our Correspondent said.
Minister Suklabaidya said that the State Government is holding talks with UDLF(B) and BRAU and is hopeful of bringing them into the mainstream of society very soon.
Minister Suklabaidya, former Minister Gautam Roy, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Govinda Bhuyan, SP Pranabjyoti Goswami, MLAs Suzamuddin Laskar and Nizamuddin Choudhury and other dignitaries gave away certificates and trophies to the best march past contingents, best Government offices for cleanliness, best farmer, best ASHA and Anganwadi worker. Suklabaidya also distributed power tillers to farmers under the BGREI scheme. Financial assistance under various schemes were also distributed to the beneficiaries by the dignitaries.
Colourful cultural pageantry showcasing different folk dances and songs as well as stunning display of martial arts kept the almost jam- packed stadium enthralled. Another highlight of this year�s Republic Day celebrations was the tableaux put up by the Agriculture, Panchayat and Rural Development, PHE, Irrigation and Education departments, besides under schemes like mid-day meal, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), NSAP and National Mobile Medical Unit. Special screening of patriotic film Border was screened by E Media Association in association with the Hailakandi district administration for children.
Earlier on his arrival, Minister Suklabaidya paid floral tributes at the Jatiyo Swahid Smarak (National Martyrs Memorial). Later, he visited the District Jail and SK Roy Civil Hospital and distributed fruits and sweets to the jail inmates and patients.
North Lakhimpur: The 69th Republic Day was observed with patriotic fervour throughout Lakhimpur district, a report filed by our Correspondent stated.
The official function was held at the playground of North Lakhimpur Govt HS School where the National Flag was unfurled by Ranjit Dutta, State Minister for Sericulture and Textiles. The Minister took the salute of the parade and inspected the guard of honour.
In his address, Dutta paid glowing tribute to the architects of the Constitution of the country and spoke about the various initiatives started by the State Government. Tableaus of various departments of the State were also taken out in the parade.
DIBRUGARH: Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri unfurled the Tricolour at the Chowkidinghee ground here on the occasion of the 69th Republic Day celebration, our Staff Correspondent adds.
Prior to the unfurling of the flag, the Deputy Commissioner initiated the swahid tarpan at the temporary Swahid Bedi built on the ground. Superintendent of Police Gautam Bora, local MLA Prasanta Phukan also took part in the swahid tarpan ceremony.
After hoisting of the flag, the Deputy Commissioner took salutes from Assam Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts & Guides and several other contingents, including schoolchildren. People thronged to witness the Republic Day parade. Lahoal MLA Rituparna Baruah was also present on the occasion.
The 69th Republic Day celebration was also marked at Dibrugarh University where Professor Alak K Buragohain, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University hoisted the National Tricolour in the presence of a large number of students, teachers and local public.
The unfurling of the national flag was followed by a march past. A large number of students from the University�s departments and the Centre for Studies, besides NCC cadets of the University, students from the adjoining villages, model school of the University and the University security staff presented the march past.
Students from the Centre for Physical Education and Sports displayed an impressive repertoire of yoga. The programme also witnessed rendition of patriotic songs by the Children�s Group of the University community. Essay competition, recitation, extempore speech competition and volley ball matches were also organised in the campus to mark the day in a befitting manner.
UDALGURI: Along with rest of the rest of the country, people of Udalguri district also celebrated the 69th Republic Day in Udalguri, Tangla, Bhergaon, Kalaigaon, Orang, Mazbat, Rowta, Harisinga and Bhutan border area villages with a daylong agenda.
In Udalguri, the Republic Day was centrally celebrated at the DC parade ground. School and college students of neighbouring areas and security forces participated in the Republic Day parade. Dilip Kumar Das, Deputy Commissioner of the district inspected the guard of honour and unfurled the Tricolour. The Udalguri Town Committee also celebrated the auapicious day at Udalguri Gandhi maidan. Ripen Daimari, chairman of the townbody unfurled the Tricolour. )000
Dhubri: Republic Day was observed in many areas of the district on Friday with fervour and enthusiasm. The Day was centrally observed by the district administration at Raja Prabhat Ch Baruah Playground, where Minister of Forest and Environment, Pramila Rani Brahma hoisted the National Flag.
GOSSAIGAON: The 69th Republic Day was observed at Gossaigaon under the aegis of the civil administration. The Tricolour was hoisted at the Gosaigaon Higher Secondary School field here by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, i/c Gossaigaon subdivision, Wilburn S Daimary. Police, NCC and schol students took part in the march past. On the occasion, social workers, farmers, floriculturists, mushroom growers (women), pisciculturists etc., were felicitated. Prizes for drawing and quiz contests were also given away.
SILAPATHAR: Republic Day was celebrated at Silapathar and its adjoining area in a befitting manner. Silapathar College, Silapathar Purbanchal College, Silapathar Science College, Silapathar Town College, Pub Silapathar College, Silapathar RHSS, Silapathar Donbosco HS, Silapathar Residential English HSS, Silapathar Town Girls HS, Akajan HS, Silapathar Migang HS, United Frontiyar HS and several others Colleges and School celebrated the day.
Sissiborgaon block Congress Committee celebrated the day at the office premises of Sissiborgaon block office at Silapathar town.
Chabua: The 69th Republic Day was also celebrated at the Chabua Town Committee premises, Chabua. Mitharam Phukon, senior citizen lit the lamp at the Swahid Bedi. Anita Sharma, Chairman of Chabua Town Committee hoisted the National Flag. Chandra Kumar Bhuyan, ex-principal of DDR College Chabua, Brojen Baruah, ex-chairman of Chabua Town Committee, Prafulla Kumar Sarmah, Sishir Ghosh and Biswajeet Bhuyan attended and spoke in the meeting.
BOKAKHAT: Bokakhat civil administration celebrated centrally the 69th Republic Day at Bokakhat stadium with a colourful programme.
The Tricolour was unfurled by the SDO (C) 0f Bokakhat Dhiraj Das. Earlier, he inspected the march past. Eminent personalities were felicitated for their outstanding services.
Patacharkuchi: The Tricolour was hoisted by Bijaya Bhaskar Reddy, SDO (C) Bajali at Bajali HS playground amidst the presence of a huge gathering to mark the 69th Republic Day. Certificates were also distributed among the families of freedom fighters. Various cultural programmes were also performed by various groups comprising Anundoram Borooah Academy, Nartan Academy Pragati Sangha and Tapoban�s inmates. Lachit Medhi and Lachit Kalita, both farmers were also felicitated in the programme, while a 98-year-old freedom fighter Deep Charan Pathak was accorded warm felicitation.
