GUWAHATI, April 28 The Joint Council of Trade Unions, Assam has expressed grave concern at the retrenchment of 500 temporary employees of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) by the GMC authorities for participating in the two-day strike on April 23 and 24 on the legitimate demands of pension, regularisation of temporary employees, compassionate ground appointment, etc. In a press release here today, the organisation said that such action of the GMC authorities constitutes a wanton attack on the inalienable trade union rights of the workers and employees. While condemning the authoritarian step, the organisation urged upon the GMC authorities to immediately withdraw the order of retrenchment. At the same time, it also extended wholehearted support and solidarity to the just struggle of the GMC temporary employees and called for an amicable solution to the issue.
