GUWAHATI, Sept 4 Two officials of IMG-Reliance Ajoy Malhotra and Bikram Singh visited the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here today to take stock of the condition there.

The Sarusajai stadium is one of the probable venues for the proposed IPL-like football league which is likely to be held early next year.

Assam Football Association (AFA) secretary Ankur Dutta and vice-chairman of the Sports Authority of Assam, Rana Goswami accompanied the officials during their visit to the stadium. While Malhotra is a curator, Singh is a top official of the project.

The present condition of the stadium is far from satisfactory to host a top level football tournament. The AFA has already urged the State Government to put some effort so that the ground and other infrastructure of the stadium could be given a face-lift. If the city becomes one of the franchises of the championship then several home matches will be played here. But the ground needs drastic improvement for hosting such a high-level tournament where the cream of the Indian football players along with some leading overseas footballers will take part.

The visiting officials did not agree to comment on the present condition of the ground and other infrastructure but simply said that the ground needs improvement.
