IMPHAL, Aug 19 The Nagas in Manipur under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC) on Friday staged mass public rallies at four Naga dominated district headquarters in the State against any move of the State Government to create Sadar Hills district without consulting the Nagas.
The rallies participated by thousands of people were held at the district headquarters of Senapati, Chandel, Ukhrul and Tamenglong.
The UNC said the rallies were carried out to register strong objection to the alleged attempt of the Government of Manipur to bifurcate the land of the Nagas to create Sadar Hills and Jiribam districts.
UNC said the Nagas had signed MoU with the Government of Manipur in this regard in the past. It is said that as per the MoU, the resolution to the conflict on the issue of Sadar Hills will be brought about through a consensus of the people in the interest of bringing about lasting peace and harmony.
