Railway Heritage Park inaugurated

TINSUKIA, July 28 � The history of Railways in Tinsukia district dates back to August 1882, when the British company Assam Railways and Trading Company (ARTC) started the Dibru-Saikhowa train services here.

The railway services in this part of country had been carrying the heritage of experience, memories and what not. Being the most important Railway junction of the North East, Tinsukia is now privileged to house the Railway Heritage Park.

Shiv Kumar, General Manager, NF Railway, inaugurated the Heritage Park constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore at the New Tinsukia Railway Station compound here on Saturday.

Dedicating the park to the people, the General Manager stated that the Park is not only materialistically important but it also carries the stories of sacrifices, dedicated and sincere services of lakhs of people who worked for the railways in this part of the country. He hoped that it would also be an ideal destination for tourists.

The inaugural function was attended by the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Tinsukia Dr KK Dwivedi and Diganta Bora respectively Divisional Railway Manager, Sanjay Mukherjee earlier narrated the history of NF Railway.
