GUWAHATI, April 20 National Public Relations Day will be observed by the Public Relations Society of Indias Guwahati Chapter tomorrow.
This years theme is Preservation of Indian values, traditions, and culture for tomorrows India role of Public Relations. The invited speaker on the occasion will be Trikalagya Rabha, chairman, Railway Recruitment Board, Siliguri and former Chief Public Relations Officer of NF Railway.
The objective behind designating April 21 as National Public Relations Day is to focus attention on the public relations function and public relations professionals in India, who have an increasingly important role in the development of the country.
The first All India Public Relations Conference was organised in Delhi on April 21, 1968 by PRSI. The theme of the conference was Professional Approach, aimed at giving a new meaning to the definition of the PR profession in India.
Earlier, terms such as publicity, press agentry, information, etc., were synonymous with PR. A Code of Ethics for the PR profession was adopted and it was the beginning of professional Public Relations in India.
It may be pertinent to add here that Rabha was elevated to the post of CPRO in NF Railway in January 2003, and is presently chairman of RRB in Siliguri.
